How To Achieve the First Impression

It is very important to achieve the first impression. So, how to achieve it is given below.

1) Make them want to listen: 

 Our introduction has to give the audience a reason to listen more. This could be because we are amazingly engaging or funny, or it could be because of the problem we are talking about is relevant to them.

If we are going to talk to a group of German engineers about the reproductive difficulties of Andean llamas, that could be tough, so choose the subject well, but if in fact there is a relevant engineering challenge in solving Andean llama reproduction problems, make sure that’s clear at the beginning.

2) Connect With The Audience: 

The best presentations are more about two-way communication than simply broadcasting a message as if the audience were not there. Even if we as the presenter are doing almost all the talking, it is important to make the audience feel a part of what we are doing. It’s personal. It’s a talk specially created for them.

3) Make Eye Contact.

 We have to focus on the person or people we are speaking with. It’s hard to get to know someone when we’re looking down at a screen, so make an effort to make some eye contact with everyone in the room. However, we have to keep in mind that eye contact can also backfire, according to a study by the University of British Columbia. Therefore, one should look into the eyes and talk.

4)  Put The Phone Away.

That goes for tablets, laptops, and other electronics, too. If we need to use technology to deliver a presentation, that’s one thing. But unless we’re projecting our computer or tablet screen to present to the entire room, turn off sounds and vibrations on the mobile devices, and put the screens away.

5) Make A Connection: 

We have to pay close attention to who we’re meeting with for the first time and try to forge a connection based on what they share with us. Whether it’s their alma mater or their hometown, forging a connection outside of the professional conversation can be a great way to strike up a rapport. Those are more genuine than compliments anyway.

              First impressions aren’t always fair. If we walk into the room wet through because somebody took our umbrella, our first impression won’t be a good one. If we spend ten minutes trying to make our slides appear on the wall, that doesn’t look too good either.
